Spain: Lower volume and stable prices in processing tomatoes

The processing tomato campaign is over in the two main producing regions, Extremadura and Andalucía, accounting for around 90% of total volume.

It has been a year characterized by a decrease of 3-4% in the national production, reaching 2.9 million tons, and stable prices. In Extremadura, where 68% of the total acreage is located (24,300 hectares), production was 10% lower due to the July storms. Its prices ranged between 75 and 78 €/ton.

Prices in Andalucía (7,977 hectares, 22% of total acreage) were around 73 €/ton.

The total cultivated area in Spain (35,914 hectares) was 10.5% higher than the previous year and 32.4% more than in 2014.
