Vietnam: Gigantic Dutch pepper grown in Central Highlands

Nguyen Dinh, a resident of Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, is giving himself a pat on the back following his success in growing Dutch peppers on his 500-square-meter farm.

He is the first man to cultivate these temperate plant species in Vietnam’s tropical climate. According to Dinh, it takes approximately three months from planting the seeds until they are ready for harvesting. The fully grown gigantic peppers can reach up to 30 cm and weigh nearly 300 gr. Their taste is similar to regular bell peppers, but less pungent, making them a great indredients for smoothies.

The Dutch peppers sells for VND 30,000 (USD 1.5) per kg, about 1.5 times higher than the price of regular bell peppers.
