Sainsbury's unveils tomato that doesn't make sandwich soggy
From best selling BLTs (bacon, lettuce and tomato) for £2.20 to traditional cheese and tomato sarnies, its new Food to Go range will not seep liquid and seeds into bread.
The supermarket has invested £8 million into 200 new or revamped lunchtime snacks, including the leak-free Vine Ripened Intense Tomato which holds it shape better than the rest.
It's more robust structure keeps the wetness in the tomato and a spokesperson said: "It has a good edge which holds the liquid in.
"There's no compromise on taste but it doesn't turn the bread soggy".
It is part of Sainsbury's ramping up the stakes to win shoppers back from high street snack rivals Pret-a-Manger and Marks & Spencer.
