US (NY): Webster Town Board approves Intergrow tomato greenhouse

The Webster Town Board meeting room featured standing room only on Thursday night, in the latest twist in a controversial plan to bring a hydroponic tomato farm to the community.

The town board gave the green light for the project to move forward, but the meeting itself wasn't to approve the construction of the facility, but rather to determine whether the proposal fits a conservation easement for the parcel of land.

The questions that the board answered on Thursday were whether or not the plans by Intergrow Greenhouses Incorporated would impair the potential for future agriculture on the property. It also determined whether or not the project would harm the soil or agricultural values of the property.

The final approval is now up to the town planning board, which is expected to meet on October 18th.
