NL: Hazera and Clause announce International Open Days
Vegetable seed companies Hazera and Clause – daughters of the Limagrain Group - will hold their annual International Open Days from 27th September to 29th September on a brand new 2 ha. field in Warmenhuizen, The Netherlands, from 9am to 5pm on each day. The event is an outstanding opportunity to discover the latest varieties, introductions, innovations and technologies in open field vegetable growing. These International Open Days usually attract between 800 and 1000 professional visitors, and are a real “living catalogue” of many vegetable crops.
As is does every year, Hazera is hosting the event. Crop specialists from Hazera, and this year also from Clause, will be available to answer any questions for visitors. The selection of crops on show includes white, red, savoy and pointed cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, onions (extra-long and long day), carrot, beetroot, a whole range of lettuce, squash, leeks, radish, pumpkin, celeriac, turnip, cornsalad, rucola and endive. New on the field this year is a Clause Home Garden selection of dedicated varieties for the hobby garden market including beans, lettuce and pumpkins. A selection of fruited crops, tomato, cucumber, watermelon and others will be shown in the pavilion. Visitors can subscribe to excursions to visit leading companies. And during the whole event delicious dishes and tapas will be served, freshly prepared using the vegetables shown in the field.
Hazera will present exciting new brassica products such as high yielding Brussels sprouts for processing, cabbages for long storage in continental conditions and a range of broccoli products with excellent heat tolerance. The company is also showing its onion range, notable for the combination of high yield and long storage. Of particular interest are the new long storage varieties in the very early slot for both long-day and extra-long-day, and the brand-new range of set onions in the early slot. Hazera will also have a selection of leafy crops, including the latest types and varieties of lettuce bred by sister company Vilmorin.
The emphasis of the Clause range is on new cauliflowers and broccolis (including the new sprouting-broccoli Calebrini). The company also shows other new products such as Alternaria resistant storage carrots that will be of interest to conventional and organic growers, a sweetcorn line for Northern Europe, virus-resistant squash varieties and corn salads for open and protected cultivation. A range of Halloween decorative and edible pumpkins completes the display.
