USAID promotes hydroponics in the Middle East

USAID Global Water Coordinator Christian Holmes recently visited Jordan, Lebanon and the West Bank and Gaza region so that he could see first-hand the work USAID and local partners are doing to secure adequate water for public health and food production.

While in Jordan, Christian visited Tayseer Al-Sardi Farm, an ECO Consult Hydroponic Farming Initiative in Mafraq. The integrated model of hydroponic and photovoltaic farming employed at Tayseer Al-Sardi Farm was developed by ECO Consult to compete with conventional greenhouse technology and drip irrigation systems. Using this technology reduces water usage by up to 40 percent, and results in as much as ten times more yield.
