Mexican horticultural team at Norseman Xtreme Triathlon:
Pharis Rico and Mauricio Revah summit Mount Gaustatoppen
Norseman is the ultimate triathlon on the planet. Every year 250 athletes battle a 3.8 km swim in the frigid waters of Eidfjord in Norway, bike 180 km on the mountains and run a marathon like no other, finishing at the top of the highest mountain in Norway: Mount Gaustatoppen.
Only the first 160 athletes who reach the check point at the base of the mountain get the opportunity to try the climb to the summit, after clearance from medical staff.
Norseman is unique, extreme and beautiful. The stories around the preparation and the race commonly showcase the best of the human spirit. It is also a team challenge with every athlete depending on a team to care for him during the race, providing support, clothing, supplies, food, water and physical help during the mountain climbing.
There are no economic prizes in Norseman. The winner gets to choose a charity to which the Norseman Foundation will give a donation and the athletes who reach the summit get the honor of a black shirt.
In November, when Pharis was selected to represent Mexico in the Norseman race, Mauricio jumped into the team, providing support and becoming the leader of the support crew.
The 9 month preparation created a friendship that was the logical outcome of the trust built during the business relationship established between United Farms and Horticonnect
Pharis and Mauricio crossed the finish line 16:42:52 hours after the start of the race, with their respective significant others Mariana and Lizzi joining them for the climb.
What is next for the team? United Farms and HortiConnect envision a partnership to develop different projects including the Energy Greenhouse Park, a Center for the transfer of Knowledge and Technology and a young plant nursery.
Both will partner again for Swissman, another challenging ironman triathlon, part of the trilogy of Xtreme Triathlons: Norseman , Swissman and Celtman.
