US (CA): Monterey County to vote on MMJ tax in November

Monterey County Supervisors moved forward Tuesday with plans to place a tax on commercial cannabis operations in unincorporated areas of the county on the November 8 ballot.

Supervisors also adopted changes to county code that would require an annual permit for commercial medical cannabis activities and an annual permit for personal cultivation of medical marijuana exclusively for personal use.

If approved by voters, the county would impose a general tax on commercial cannabis businesses in the unincorporated area of Monterey County starting on January 1, 2017.
