US (IL): Bright Farms in Rochelle delivers first crops

A new farm in Rochelle is sending its first batch of produce to Chicago-area supermarkets on Tuesday.

"We're growing with less land, we're growing without agricultural runoff and we're growing with less overall energy and about 95 percent less shipping fuel," Paul Lightfoot, of Bright Farms said.

Bright farms says it chooses to set up greenhouses in places like Rochelle to compete with farms on the west coast that use much more shipping fuel to get it to the Midwest.

Food from Bright Farms will go to more than 100 Chicago-area Roundy's and Mariano supermarkets.
