EU association agreement with Georgia and Moldova comes into force
The association agreements signed by the EU with Moldova and Georgia came into force on Friday 1 July. These will lead to the gradual integration of the two countries within the EU common market by eliminating most tariffs and trade barriers and their adaptation of EU standards, informs TVN24.
According to the European Commission, the provisional validity of the provisions of the association agreements has already had beneficial results. In 2015, Georgian exports to the EU increased by 16 percent, which was a direct consequence of the implementation of the DCFTA. The EU market received Georgian kiwifruit, blueberries, nuts, garlic and wine, among other products.
Meanwhile, exports of canned vegetables from Moldova to the EU increased by 455 percent in 2014, and those of canned fruit grew by 228 percent, as reported by the European Commission.
The association agreements define a programme of reforms in many sectors.
