Netherlands: New breeds on display at Day De Ruiter today

Last year growers, plant breeders, consultants and other professionals from the chain attended the Open Days of De Ruiter at the Tomato Experience Centre. The reason: the release of as many as five brand new tomato breeds. This year De Ruiter has added another two breeds. The company is celebrating it with two open days, the first of which will take place today, June 8

During the Open Day over 300 different tomato breeds can be viewed under one roof at the Tomato Experience Centre. Not only De Ruiter’s, but also those of other seed suppliers. In addition, De Ruiter will share all available data on production and durability of all breeds.

All top tomato breeds together
Greatest crowd-puller of the upcoming Open Day is a ‘meet&greet’ with the Top Tomato Breeds. The five newcomers last year were Sevance, Luminance, Audiance, Kurtino and Ducovery. This year you can meet two new breeds: Volantis and Quentero.

Volantis
Volantis is De Ruiter’s new plum tomato, a successor to the known Prunus. The firm fruits have an elongated shape from the very start of the season and can be harvested both separately or as a truss. This variety is strong against tip rot. Volantis provides an early, high yield and is suitable for year round cultivation.

On the way: Quentero (formerly DR8585TH)
Quentero has been entered into the Prince segment by Flandria. It stands out for its high total production, consistent fruit quality and its red color. Quentero combines this with a crown that remains green during storage.

Information
The De Ruiter Open Day will take place on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 from 13.00 to 17.00 at the Tomato Experience Centre (Strandweg 19, 2691 KE 's-Gravenzande). More information can be found at www.deruiterseeds.nl.

Customers who can’t make it to the Open Day can always make an appointment for a tour with their De Ruiter account manager. They can also visit the second Open Day on September 7th.
