Will Silicon Valley disrupt agritecture?

Accelerators, venture capitalists, big data scientists, university professors, robotics engineers, entrepreneurs, and farmers. Farmers might not sound like they fit in with this group, but at The Silicon Valley AgTech Conference farmers we're the focus, and disrupting their eons old industry was goal.

During the conference 20 startups made their pitches to a panel of venture capitalists. The young companies ranged from a spinoff of a defense technology that lets farmers ‘see’ underground, to an ag for hire app that connects farms with labor. These were among the many pitches that had the VC’s salivating.

While each start up was well thought out and potentially disruptive, only two would qualify as ‘Agritecture’:
  1. ReGen Villages – A Stanford University spin off that engineers and facilitates the development of homes that power and feed their residents. ReGen Villages is breaking ground on a 25 home pilot project in Almere Netherlands for their first neighborhood this June.
  2. SoliCulture – A wavelength selective photovolataics company. This is a fancy way of saying pink transparent solar panels for greenhouses. Why pink? For the highest efficiency of the panels, for optimal plant growth, and for the most attractive design
