US (SD): Discovery Center greenhouse teaches kids about fresh veggies

A new greenhouse and a sand table sporting a projected topographical map of a watershed projected onto a sandtable are the latest additions to the South Dakota Discovery Center Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce officials learned Wednesday.

They were at the Discovery Center for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the center’s greenhouse.

Both the greenhouse and the sandtable will help kids learn more about the world around them, Environmental Educator Anne Lewis said.

“The reason we do all this stuff is we want kids and their parents to eat more fresh vegetables,” she said.

The new greenhouse, Maher said, will help increase the productivity of the gardens the Discovery Center helps with in the community.
