Chinese students brushed up on greenhouse screening
On April 15 a group of 15 Chinese students visited the production location of Holland Scherming in Maasdijk, The Netherlands. The students were given a brief explanation of screening technology and the different types of greenhouse screening that exist. Also Holland Gaas and the companies Glascom and Alumat Zeeman, based at the same location, gave a brief explanation and demonstration of their products and services.
After the presentations the students were given a tour of the various production departments of Holland Scherming, Holland Gaas and Alumat Zeeman.
First the students were shown how gauze systems are made. Holland Gaas makes accordion insect netting and other systems that are placed in air windows to keep harmful insects out or in, for example, for the purpose of pollination. Next, by means of a test set-up, a more elaborate explanation was given about the operation of screen installations.
Finally, Bert Strikkers of Alumat Zeeman showed a number of machines that produce parts for greenhouse screening and aeration. The Chinese students will be in the Netherlands till the end of June and are guests on the basis of an exchange program of the horticultural training at Lentiz college.
