EU to decide what anti-crisis measures to adopt for agriculture

The ministers of agriculture of the EU and Commissioner Hogan will discuss the proposed measures to face the crisis following February Board meeting.

Spain has asked Brussels to increase the intervention price, to modify private storage so it is more effective, to allow producer and interbranch organizations to plan production, to open new markets, increase promotion, more flexibility in establishing coupled support, and establishing mechanisms to promptly detect crisis situations.

France and Germany have submitted a joint proposal, which they have been negotiating with other countries in search of support. This proposal requests a temporary liquidity aid program and raising minimis aid to 30,000 euros in three years.

The Special Committee on Agriculture has prepared a document with all the measures submitted by Member States, both for the short and medium term. There are 13 measures for the fruits and vegetables sector.

Among other actions for the fruit and vegetable sector, the member countries have proposed exceptional aid, increasing withdrawal prices, safeguard measures to protect the Community market from Moroccan tomatoes, expanding the withdrawal destination markets, increasing promotion, and continuing green harvesting and non-harvesting.
