Ceickor training centre supports rapid growth of Mexico's greenhouse industry

For several years now, the Mexican greenhouse industry has been able to rely on the services of the Ceickor training centre in Queretaro. Since its opening, the centre has trained a large number of students in order to provide the rapidly growing Mexican greenhouse industry with educated staff that know all the ins and outs of commercial greenhouse growing with the use of advanced technology.

The popularity of the Ceickor University among domestic students is a good indication of the potential of the Mexican greenhouse industry. The horticulture industry develops due to increased demand of safely and sustainably produced greenhouse vegetables from both domestic and export markets, hence Mexico has been investing heavily in greenhouse development. All of those greenhouses need to have qualified people on board in order to produce at their full potential. This is where the training centre is pleading a leading role.

Ceickor is specialized in growing hydroponic crops. At the premises there are four training greenhouses in which the students receive education on maintaining the crops and climates. The sections have different crops and varieties inside, as well as multiple growing and cropping system; different gutters, substrates and screen and other climate technology. This gives the students a good practical approach in different production settings. As well as this there is a propagation facility where the students learn how to graft and raise young plants.

Not only students that are new to greenhouse growing benefit from the opportunities at Ceickor; it also provides additional training to existing growers, as well as technicians and managers from the supply chain. Another major activity of Ceickor is its role as an independent research partner and technology transfer center for protected cropping in Mexico and Latin America.

Besides the practical side of greenhouse growing, there are also educational classes where students are taught on plant physiology, phytosanitary, crop protection, pest management, post harvest, food safety and many other aspects of the horticulture industry.

Ceikor was founded with the help of the local governments. As well as this, it received major support from international greenhouse supply companies that are widely active in the Mexican market. Companies like Priva, Svensson, Koppert Biological Systems Syngenta, Inverca, Solusol, Haifa, Grodan, FormFlex, Rijk Zwaan, Enza zaden, Asesores en Invernaderos, Globalmex, International Paper, De Ruiter, Mardenkro and Bato have partnered with the university.
