Jonathan's Sprouts celebrates 40 years

US: Sprouts perfect food for health food trend

Jonathan’s Sprouts has been a family-run business since 1976 starting in Robert and Barbara Sanderson's back yard. Now celebrating 40 years, Jonathan’s enjoys strong partnerships with retailers who have been loyal customers since the beginning.

"The focus for our 40th anniversary is to get people to understand why sprouts are such a vital part of a healthy lifestyle. We will be launching a "Why Sprouts" campaign in stores and with our wholesalers that we are very excited about. Sprouts are an easy way to get protein, vitamins, probiotics and phytonutrients into your diet and can be incorporated into every meal of the day or enjoyed as a meal unto themselves as a sprout dinner salad by taking our 5 Must Have Sprouts and using our Superfood Oil Dressing."

Along with spreading the word on the versatility and health benefits of sprouts, the company recently redesigned all of their packaging, along with a new website, last year. This year they plan on introducing merchandising racks to prominently display their products on store shelves.

"We have really noticed people just wanting to eat healthierand using sprouts to do so. Because eating a small amount of sprouts is equalto consuming a much larger amount of the mature vegetable."

On the back of the popularity that kale has been enjoying in the US for the last couple of years, the company has added kale sprouts to its offering. Walden said that they are looking intogrowing Organic Kale as soon as they can locate a good seed.

Jonathan's is a regional supplier for restaurants and grocery stores in New England, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The company remains regional due to the fact that their products are living plants where the shelf life isn't long enough to go much further.

Recent weather issues felt around the world are not an issue for Jonathan's who grow indoor sprouts year round in their barn and greenhouses. All of their sprouts are grown organically using only water.
