"Duty free imports could put Israel's agriculture at risk"

Agricultural lobby head Eitan Broshi MK (Zionist Union) has requested that Eitan Cabel MK urgently convene the Finance Committee, in view of the Treasury's intention to allow duty free imports, which could cause serious damage to farmers and to agriculture in general. Mr. Broshi noted in his letter that the move would 'seriously harm both farmers and agricultural production, and could lead to putting a great many farms out of business. Despite the Treasury's assurances that it intends to compensate farmers, no compensation mechanism has been announced.'
