Stabilizing substrate mix with perlite additive

Optimal plant growth only occurs in the optimal soil or substrate in order to develop as many fine roots as possible. That is why Knauff selected special perlite from Greece when developing their Perligran perlite. "Perlite is a sustainable substrate additive that enables more plant growth and production. It is certified according to the strict Dutch standard RHP and now was added to the Swiss FibL list", says producer Knauff."

Perligran® is based on natural perlite and features a range of characteristics and can be used as a mineral additive for the improvement of the air and water balance in substrates as well as for hydroponic crop production. It enables high capillarity and good drainage while being lightweight.

Indispensable as an additive
Used as a mineral additive in substrates, Perligran claims to reducee typical volume mixing losses to a very low level. Organic substrate components can be used in an efficient and resource preserving way.

Fine particles due to grain abrasion, which lead to soil compaction after irrigation are screened completely or at least to the greatest possible extent from the natural, mineral granulate with its evenly porous structure. Depending on grain size and screening (single or double) more than 85 and up to 95 per cent of the additive will remain dimensional stable in the substrate. Thus a visible increase in substrate volume can be achieved with an additive like Perligran®, which features dimensional stability in mixing and helps to improve soil quality significantly.

Hydroponic: Too good to discard
In its pure form Perligran® can be re-used up to five times. Thanks to a special steaming technique, viruses, fungi and bacteria are effectively neutralized. Thus the phytosanitarily safe product can be used again after its primary use and preserve valuable resources. One example: Thanks to the high quality, cut flowers of changing cultures can be grown in the same soil for five to ten years.

Success with growing roots
Perligran® Premium is used pure for hydroponic crop production of cut flowers and professional vegetable production as well as a substrate improver to high-grade professional substrates and substrates for the hobby market. Its screened quality is a precondition for successful and multi-year cut flower growing. The specialised steam procedure allows for its multiple use in vegetable production.

Five products available
For uncompromising fulfilment of the needs of roses, orchids, anthuriums, tomatoes or peppers, Perligran® is available in four types – Classic, Medium, Extra und Premium – as well as in specially designed Grow Bags.

The Vegetable Grow Bags were developed in cooperation with Kleeschulte Erden. As 100 per cent mineral and organic special substrates, they are used for professional greenhouse production of vegetables as cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers.
