Retail trade in Russia shows a record drop in 20 years
Retail trade turnover in Russia in October 2015 decreased YOY by 11.7%, breaking a 20 year record, announced the Ministry of Economic Development (MER) reports In total in January-October, retail trade decreased by 8.8%. The reduction in trade results from the declining real wages, rising prices for commodities, reduced lending and the populations’ move to a savings patterns of consumption, noted the MER. According to Rosstat, Russians’ real disposable income in October declined in annual terms by 5.6%. In January-October real incomes fell by 3.5%. The average monthly salary in October rose in annual terms by 3%, in real terms - fell by 10.9%. In the first nine months of 2015, this figure fell to 9.3%. The development centre of the Higher School of Economics in November reported on the deepening crisis of the Russian consumer. This signals that may indicate the release of the Russian economy out of recession, "do not look stable", according to the School.

Almost 70% of shoppers plan to visit Aldi or Lidl for cheaper Christmas groceries this year in a further sign of the unstoppable rise of the discounters. Consolidation drives growth for Éxito in Q3

Grupo Éxito has reported consolidated sales of US$9.8m for the third quarter of 2015. The sales growth of 203.1% was mainly driven by the consolidation of operations in Brazil and Argentina, following Casino's restructuring of its Latin American operations in July. In Colombia, sales were up 11% in Q3, to account for just over a third of consolidated sales. The discount segment was the big winner, with total sales up 130% and same store sales growth of 4.3%. Sales were up 300% in Uruguay, coming from the consolidation of Disco and good food sales at Geant and Devoto. (

Strategic alliance between French Casino and Spanish Dia

According to, French retailer, Casino and Spanish retailer, Dia have signed an agreement allying themselves in negotiations with their own brand European suppliers and in their international services. They have decided to unite together to better face strong competition from large national food suppliers.

Target, Instacart bring delivery to Chicago

Target Corp. and Instacart on Tuesday began offering same-day delivery in Chicago. Customers may order fresh food and groceries as well as health and beauty products, household supplies and baby items from Target via the Instacart website or its mobile app and have the order delivered in as little as an hour. Target and Instacart tested its delivery partnership in Minneapolis and San Francisco before expanding here. (

The supermarket chain Morrisons is set to fall out of the FTSE 100 following a sharp drop in its share price amid concerns about its recovery plans. Singapore: RedMart offers 1-hour delivery of orders from food, retail partners
Singapore-based online grocery service provider RedMart has launched an on-demand marketplace, RedMart Relay, which will allow customers to order products from participating food and retail partners, in selected parts of Singapore. These products, including food, will be delivered by "runners" - personal shoppers who go to the participating stores, purchase the products, and deliver directly to the customer, within one hour of ordering. France: Monoprix opens first store in Toulon
According to, Casino’s subsidiary, Monoprix, is opening their first store in Toulon today (2nd December). The store will cover 1,400m2 and is in the Bourse du Travail area. The store will offer home delivery and click and collect. Led by Eric Pacsa, the store will have 33 employees.

US: C&S to expand facilities in Pennsylvania

C&S Wholesale Grocers will invest at least $15m to expand its distribution facilities in Bethlehem, Pa., state authorities said Tuesday. The expansion will create 500 full-time jobs, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said in a statement. (

US: Whole Foods seeking $1B in debt offering
Whole Foods Market said it was seeking to raise $1bn in a debt offering — twice the amount it previously intended to raise. The retailer said it intended to use proceeds from the offering for general corporate purposes including a previously disclosed authorization to repurchase up to $1bn in its stock. (

US: Allegiance members open 10 new Foodtown stores
Allegiance Retail Services on Tuesday announced grand openings of 10 new Foodtown stores as well as a reopening of a renovated Foodtown unit, boosted in part by a new Allegiance member and by the acquisition of several former A&P-owned stores. (
