According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the Novosibirsk company Xiang Rui, polluted 146 square meters of their greenhouse soil with pesticides. The contamination was detected after checks were carried out and orders were also issued to eliminate the contamination.
Rosselkhoznadzor inspectors decided that the company Xiang Rui must pay a €3000.00 fine for the pollution of agricultural land with pesticides.
As the authority’s press service reports, at the end of September at the request of the district administration of the Iskitimsk region, unscheduled inspections were carried out in companies employing foreign nationals. The reason for the inspection was a report that the agricultural land was overgrown with weeds and in disarray.
Under the scope of the inspection, soil samples were taken from different greenhouses at different depths to determine pesticide residues. As a result of laboratory studies, the soil was found to contain the pesticide DDT.
"The total area of topsoil contaminated with the pesticide DDT and its metabolites, was 146m2. Pesticides residues were 1.1-1.6-fold above the norm of the maximum allowable concentration of no more than 0.1 mg / kg. The violator, LLC Xiang Rui was brought to administrative responsibility in the form of a fine for a total amount of almost €900.00,” it said in a statement by Rosselkhoznadzor.
Moreover, Rosselkhoznadzor calculated the damages to the soil’s fertile layer to be just over €2,500. According to the system "Contour-Focus", LLC "Xiang Rui" was registered in the Talmenka village in 2006 as a company engaged in vegetable growing, ornamental plants and nursery products.
