US: New book says lean principles can help sustain farms

Applying lean principles—originally developed by the Japanese automotive industry—to farming practices can drastically cut waste and increase profit, while at the same time making farms more environmentally and economically sustainable, according to the new book The Lean Farm. The book is published by Chelsea Green, by author Ben Hartman. A blog post on the principles identifies ten different types of waste on farms and prioritizes the types of waste that should be eliminated.
