Hekuran Seiti, Frankort & Koning:

"Price not the most important factor for Italy"

Importer and exporter Frankort & Koning operates in various European countries. The company is an important player in fruit and vegetables from Dutch soil to Italy. "Here, among our customer base, we also notice how quickly the role of large retailers increases," says Hekuran Seiti, who, together with Tonino Cervellera and Esther Munoz, manages sales to the Italian market. "Our product range comprises not only of Dutch fruit and vegetables, but also more and more fruit we import from overseas. Those own import lines, particularly melons, mangoes and limes, but also a wide variety of grapes, pomegranates and other exotics, provide the customers with extra benefits. Short communication lines, fast information and a wide range of products, all under one roof!"

Shortages in summer
Clients demand more and more when it comes to speed and service, and Frankort & Koning also responds to that. "Good management of logistics is very important. The time between order and delivery becomes ever shorter." Dutch fruit and vegetables, Hekuran says, remain attractive for the Italian market. "Particularly with the summery weather in Italy. It's often too hot, causing frequent shortages. We can then fill up these gaps. Italian retail in particular demands ever higher consistent quality, and then Dutch produce is excellently suitable, of course."

Positioning wholesale
Hekuran notices that wholesale is repositioning itself more and more lately. "In Italy, the traditional wholesale market is going through a difficult time. Retail wants more and more direct shipments. So for them, it's important to specialize more in a certain product or niche. That way, they can maintain their position with retail."

Price not the most important factor
Frankort & Koning has been making headway for years now. "On the Italian market as well, we've been growing steadily, and we're still seeing our market share increase in the various product groups. We aim to please all parties. On the one hand, we look after the interests of our growers, and on the other hand we do everything to service the client optimally. Price is certainly a factor here, but not the most important one. Without quality and service, you won't get anywhere on the Italian market."
