Kenya: Farmers warned over fake greenhouse materials

Nakuru farmers have been advised to be careful when procuring materials for building greenhouses.

Speaking in Bahari North in Nakuru County, John Busienei, a Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development expert said there had been reports of farmers buying the materials cheaply, only for them to discover that they had been conned.

"This kind of material wears and tears easily and does not maintain the required temperatures in the greenhouse causing withering of plants hence poor yields," said Busienei, when he spoke to farmers in Bahati on Friday.

Busienei said farmers must use the recommended material to put up the greenhouses if they hope to make a profit from the ventures.
