US: GrowIt! announces 6 scholarship winners
The GrowIt! Garden Socially app is proud to announce the six recipients of its 2014 Fall Scholarship Program. More than 150 students applied from 30 of the nation’s top horticulture programs. Through the GrowIt! app, students shared their plant photography for a chance to win a $500 or $100 scholarship. The GrowIt! Team selected winning applications from their plant profile, based on overall picture quality, the range of varieties uploaded, and their accuracy of plant identification.
“At GrowIt! we know that the future of our planet lies in the hands of youth; they will plant the gardens of tomorrow. That is why we’ve invested in their future and offered our Fall Scholarship Program to horticulture students across the country,” says Mason Day, co-founder of GrowIt! Garden Socially “This year’s six scholarship winners are passionate about plants, and also have a pretty keen eye for a good photo opportunity.”
Congratulations to the following recipients:
• Maxwell Mercer
• Lindsey Miller
• Emma Neigel
• David Proven
• Lauren Normandin
• Sarah Swofford
Launched this summer, GrowIt! is the only social app that helps gardeners find plants to fit their lifestyle, and connect them with other local gardeners. The app uses geolocation and user ratings to help gardeners discover flowers, vegetables and herbs that work in their areas for the best chance of success. The GrowIt! scholarship program encourages young horticultural professionals to showcase their talent, and become an
influencer on the network.
GrowIt! is available for free on iOS devices in the Apple App Store. A version for Android devices is coming
soon.
