US (FL): Variety showcase underlines commitment to continued innovation in vegetable research
“Grower feedback is key to our success, and with so many in attendance, we had a great opportunity to get their insights. We’ll use that information as we continue to develop varieties that reflect the tastes consumers are looking for, and that enable our growers to build and maintain a competitive edge,” said Enza Zaden Product Specialist William ‘Skeeter’ Bethea.
Myakka research station
After a morning of tours, a lunch prepared by local favorite Michael’s On East delighted the taste buds of over 100 growers, as they listened to brief addresses by local dignitaries Andy Rackley, Director of Agricultural and Environmental Services, and Vanessa Baugh, Manatee County Commissioner for District 5, both of whom underlined the importance of vegetable research to the State of Florida. Joep Lambalk, Enza Zaden Managing Director of Research & Development and Ton van der Velden, President/CEO Enza Zaden North America were the final speakers, discussing the depth of the Enza Zaden vegetable research program, as well as the company’s focus on accelerated growth through product innovation and building strong relationships with growers.
“I’m extremely proud of the advancements at the Myakka research station. In just seven years, our dedicated team has embraced the company’s global vision to innovate next generation varieties of fruits and vegetables, producing the unique, high quality products consumers are seeking here in Florida and around the world,” said Ton van der Velden, President and CEO, Enza Zaden North America.
