Malaysia: Veg prices up 100%
The rainy season on the heels of the clampdown on illegal vegetable farms and the crackdown on illegal workers in Cameron Highlands had contributed to the price hike.
Federation of Vegetable Growers Association chairman Tan So Tiok said the wholesale price of sawi had gone up from RM1.50 per kg three weeks ago to RM3 per kg, an increase of 100 per cent.
He said the wholesale price of pak choy and kailan had risen from RM2 and RM2.50 three weeks ago to RM3.50 and RM4, an increase of 75 per cent and 60 per cent respectively.
“Although there are no statistics to show how the enforcement had impacted the harvest, there are fewer vegetables being sent from Cameron Highlands,” Tan said yesterday.
