Southern growers find opportunity in California drought

A long-term and continuing drought in California may open doors of opportunity for Georgia vegetable growers, according to Growing Georgia. There is rising national demand for leafy green vegetables, and drought-stricken California may be unable to supply the market. Some Georgia vegetable growers are interested in diversifying to meet market demand, although they are finding the southern climate to be a challenge in producing leafy greens for a national market. In order to access the national market, southern growers will need crop varieties developed specifically to withstand their climate.
