US (MS): High-rise greenhouse sees price grow again

The price tag of a publicly owned hydroponic greenhouse in downtown Jackson continues to grow, reaching $3.67 million after a Town Council decision at a meeting Monday evening.

At the meeting the council agreed to increase the guaranteed maximum price of the project.

The three-story, 13,500-square-foot greenhouse, which will be run as a private-public partnership with an agricultural business called Vertical Harvest, has nearly doubled in cost since the town agreed in 2012 to back a $1.5 million state grant application to help fund it. At that time the projected cost was $2.3 million.
