India: Effective marketing mechanism for Organic Vegetables

Minister for Food Security & Agriculture Development Department and Horticulture & Cash Crop Development Department Som Nath Poudyal has stressed to prepare effective marketing mechanism to promote organic farming in the state with the view to ensure benefit to the farmers, traders and the customers. The new policy will incorporate various sections involved in organic mission in one row in the interest of people. He urged the wholesalers to collect organic vegetables from the farmers of state which is crucial factor in accomplishing organic mission in Sikkim.

Speaking at the occasion of Buyers & Sellers Meet here at the conference hall of Gangtok Municipal Corporation(GMC), organized by Sikkim Organic Mission, Poudyal assured that the grievances and problems of farmers and traders will be solved through the new policy in the interest of people. ‘Old methods don’t work with the new challenges, so new strategy is the need of hour’, he added.

Encouraging farmers, he made an announcement to establish vegetable collection centers at various places in all districts to ensure convenience to the sellers and buyers, both. He further instructed to form a committee under the chairmanship of G. Rai, Chairman, SIMFED to carry out proper mechanism in organized way.

Earlier, Minister Poudyal flagged off the mobile vegetable distribution van for GMC area and congratulated SIMFED for taking new initiative to avail organic products to the doorsteps of the consumers.
