US (IA): Muscatine officials want to help Monsanto expand

Monsanto is interested in expanding its operations in Muscatine County, and the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors took the first step Monday to show its support for the proposed $73.9 million expansion.

Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Greg Jenkins made a presentation regarding the proposed expansion at the board of supervisor's regular meeting Monday evening.

Monsanto, which has operated in Muscatine County since 1961, currently runs a plant in Muscatine County just east of Fruitland. The proposed expansion would include mostly new equipment and machinery, with a smaller expansion of the plant's physical space. Jenkins said that 51 jobs would be created as a result.
