US (SC): Clemson working on disease-resistant crops fruit crops
Clemson horticulture and genetics researchers are part of a national team developing economically important fruit crops.
Researchers are focused on eight crops: apple, blackberry, peach, pear, rose, strawberry, sweet cherry and tart cherry. The project, "RosBREED: Combining Disease Resistance with Horticultural Quality in New Rosaceous Cultivars," hopes to enable breeders to rapidly develop new varieties that have superior fruit production and are disease resistant.
