US (NV): Marijuana conference signals emerging pot market

Medical marijuana businesses are coming to Southern Nevada, and some people believe legalized recreational marijuana might not be far behind.

Growing legal and cultural acceptance of pot has the business on the verge of a major boom. Thousands of people in the business as well as those hoping to get into it have gathered this week for the Marijuana Business Conference and Expo in Las Vegas.

Forget about the stereotype of the stoner or surfer. The convention hall is filled with professional in suits. They're discussing the money that can be made from products like edibles, hemp beauty products and oils.

“A lot of people have the stigma of marijuana where it actually gets them psychoactively high, and they're scared of it. So what the CBD (cannabidiol) does is it give people the same benefits without the psychoactive high, and that, to me, is phenomenal. I suggest it to my own grandmother for that reason,” said Shane Smith, owner of Reno's Elements Cannabis Center.
