Home delivery of fruit and vegetables

India: Online portal from APMC showing success

The first online retail portal of Agriculture Market Produce Committee (APMC) in the Diamond City has been a success with a large number of residents preferring to purchase their vegetables and fruits online since it was launched on August 2 this year. Surat APMC is the first one in the state to set up an online retail portal for the home delivery of vegetables and fruits.

Official sources said that APMC has put in place an entire team including delivery boys to send goods to any part of the district. An average of 80 to 100 orders are being catered to on daily basis.

Vrijesh Yadav, who manages the online retail, said, "The customers have to place order for a minimum of Rs 500 worth of vegetables and fruits for home delivery. They get fresh veggies and fruits each time they place orders with us."

He said that most of the online orders come from posh areas like Vesu, Parle Point, Athwalines, Bhatar, Adajan, Pal, Jehangirpura, Olpaad, Rander, etc. The prices of veggies and fruits are around 3% to 4% less than the ones available in the vegetable markets.

APMC secretary Nilesh Thorat told TOI, "The online retail and the APMC's krushi bazaar have been a huge success. People get fresh fruits and vegetables on the racks at the bazaar on economical rates. We have an average of around 500 to 600 customers at the krushi bazaar every day."
