US (CO): Mushroom farm using new technology

The Colorado Mushroom Farm wasted little time re-establishing growing operations on the edge of town, but that doesn’t mean the road back was easy.

Less than a year after the previous ownership group went bankrupt, the farm’s current manager Baljit Nanda secured $3 million in private investment and public loan funding to get one of the San Luis Valley’s biggest businesses back on its feet.

“This was not an easy operation to start again, but it is something that is absolutely critical for our valley,” Roni Wisdom, chief financial officer of the San Luis Valley Development Resources Group, said.

Nanda led Wisdom and a host of state and local officials on a tour of the 10-acre mushroom plant Sunday.
