Jordan: Fruit and vegetable exports grow by 12.7%

The country showed good results concerning its fruit and vegetables exports. The Ministry of Agriculture announced a growth of 12.7% against last year reported in the first five months of the year.

Between January and May 2014 exported reached 373,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables (331,000 tonnes in 2013). Exports were destined to 44 countries. Firstly, the countries of the Gulf with 79% of the total exports made, Iraq (11%), Syria and Lebanon (9%). Dealing with products, tomatoes made 67% of the total vegetables exported, preceding lettuce, cauliflowers, peppers and aubergines. As for fruit, peaches represented 46% of the whole exported fruit: melons and cucumbers represent 41%.
