US: $1.2M worth of marijuana found in chilli pepper haul

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Thursday seized nearly 1,300 pounds of marijuana concealed in a shipment of chilli peppers, authorities said.

CBP officers at the Rio Grande City-Camargo International Bridge stopped the shipment being hauled by a tractor-trailer. Inside the trailer, officers discovered more than 200 packages among the chilli peppers, according to a news release.

The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $1.2 million. The case has been turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further follow-up, the release said.
