Supplemental lighting to address the limiting factors of winter

A greenhouse grower’s goal is to have consistent product and quality, but relying on Mother Nature doesn’t always provide that. Seasonal effects, i.e. winter cloud cover, limit plants’ ability to produce at their top levels all year long.

Savvy growers have learned to provide their greenhouse vegetation with supplemental light. Offering greenhouse crops supplemental light ensures consistent plant responses, and therefore consistent production and consistent quality.

In other words, supplemental greenhouse lighting fully addresses the limiting factor that winter delivers to your grow operation.

Many growers are already aware of the need for supplemental greenhouse lighting, but may be stuck in the past, using old-fashioned HPS technology.

LED supplemental lighting offers several advantages over HPS:
  • Energy savings
  • High output (astronomically better than anything else)
  • Precisely-tuned to maximize production
  • Uniformity of intensity and spectrum
Additionally, because LEDs produce significantly less heat than HPS lights, you won’t have to vent your greenhouse as often. And assuming you’re pumping in supplemental carbon dioxide, less venting means less CO2 loss.

When you incorporate all the benefits of supplemental LED greenhouse lighting — improved and consistent plant responses, lengthened growing period, energy savings, CO2 preservation — it really doesn’t make sense not to add an LED plant growth system to your operation.
