US (TX): Irwin Greenhouses overhauls offerings
A Canyon wholesaler will cultivate a new approach to its changing industry in 2015. Irwin Greenhouses will transition from a year-round greenhouse operation to seasonal next year.
The business established in 1963 will shift its sales emphasis from serving retail flower shops in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Louisiana on a weekly basis to focus on seasonal bedding plants and holiday crops, such as Easter lilies, Dutch bulbs and poinsettias.
“Spring bedding plants will be our major concentration,” said President Lou Anne Irwin Causey, daughter of founders Jean Irwin and the late James T. Irwin. “It’s something I’m growing more and more of every year, whereas mums I’m growing less and less of every year.”
Irwin Greenhouses will produce an even more extensive line of locally grown and acclimated bedding plants, including annuals, vegetables and perennials in sizes from small multi-packs to large planters and baskets for regional garden centres, landscapers and organizations, a news release said.
