US (MI): Grand Rapids avoids first seasonal freeze, though time now to save plants

The first few 30-degree lows of the season are on deck this week, though it's likely West Michigan will see a later than usual first freeze.

Grand Rapids' first freezing fall temperature of the season typically arrives Oct. 9, and with that date now just days away, the closest in getting to the mark will be that night. However, we'll only bottom out to 37 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Parts of the Upper Peninsula already have frozen in recent weeks, lining up with averages. Most locations across Lower Michigan typically sees their first 32-degree low in the middle to late part of October.

High pressure is poised to dominate the weather pattern toward the latter half of the week, bringing with it seasonably cool weather, forecasters say.
