US (SD): High winds tear through greenhouse roof

High winds Friday caused damage to the roof of the Wheat Commission Greenhouse on the northwest corner of the South Dakota State University campus.

According to the National Weather Service, winds measured up to 23 mph with gusts up to 43 mph as of 3:15 Friday afternoon. The plastic material covering the greenhouse was torn apart by the powerful gusts, leaving large holes in the roof.

Facilities and Services previously planned on replacing the roof, but due to the high winds, replacement will not take place until next week, Dean Kattelmann, vice president of Facilities and Services, said. All of the materials are already on hand.
