Greenhouse business closes after 68 years
It’s a family business that has roots dating back to 1947. It’s also a family of hardworking individuals, who all had lives and careers of their own and could have gone separate ways, but they decided it was more important to stick together in times of need.
When John Cank passed away in 2005, he left behind his wife, Vicky, his four daughters Debbie Cank-Thatcher, Laurie Cank-Bisson, Michelle Gidney, Tracy Campbell and a greenhouse.
That could easily have been the end of Rainbow Gardens, a business that started with a small greenhouse in 1947 by John’s parents.
Vicky, with help from her daughters, kept the business going and in 2007 began another chapter of their history under the name of Rainbow 5 Girls & a Greenhouse.
On Dec. 24, the Carlton Ave., business will close ending nearly 68 years of serving not just customers, but their friends.
Closing that door for the last time won’t be easy because they grew up around the business and there are fond memories everywhere they look.
