Greenhouse cucumber prices plunged in Ukraine
Last weekend, greenhouse cucumber prices in Ukraine plunged dramatically, according to experts of "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits."
Greenhouse cucumber prices in the domestic market dropped by 200-250%, down to 2-3 RPH/kg (0.15-0.23 $/kg). The reason for this sharp drop has been the mass introduction of the second cycle cucumbers from small farms in the southern regions.
Meanwhile, the export price by the end of last week dropped by 150-180%, with shipments made at around 5-6 RPH/kg (0.38-0.45 $/kg). APK-Inform experts say that the lack of demand from Russian companies could make this situation even more dramatic; however, it is also noted that in early autumn last year, the export price of cucumbers in Ukraine was higher than today, and often reached 6.5 RPH/kg (0.49 $/kg).
It is worth noting that last week the price of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine reached a record level for the last 5 years. How Ukraine is to regain its position in the Russian cucumber market, as well as the prospects for the development of the greenhouse sector in Russia this year, are two of the topics that will be addressed by leading experts on 16 September in Moscow during the Seventh International Conference "Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia 2014."
