The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County and Texas Department of Agriculture are offering certification and recertification training for private pesticide applicator license holders.
The training will be Sept. 5 at the AgriLife Extension office, located in Suite 208 of the Conroy Square business complex, 3355 Cherry Ridge Drive in San Antonio.
Registration will be from 8-8:15 a.m.
“The purpose of this program is obtaining or maintaining a private applicator license from the TDA,” said Roy Flora, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources for Bexar County. “This license will allow the holder to purchase and apply limited use or federally restricted chemicals on the land he owns or has control over for agricultural production.”
The training will be conducted by AgriLife Extension, Flora said, and is expected to conclude around noon.
Attendees will submit the training completion form along with $60 to the Texas Department of Agriculture,” he said.“TDA will then send you a letter containing an account number. This will permit you to take the examination at a site designated by TDA.”
Two training manuals are needed for the class,” Flora noted. “Attendees may wish to obtain the manuals prior to the training so that they may review them ahead of time. “They can get these manuals at the AgriLife Extension office here.”
The private applicator license is valid for five years, but at the end of the licensing period, license holders must receive 15 hours of continuing education in order to renew for another five years, he said.
He added while this training is specifically designed for private applicators, it is also an excellent review for anyone needing to study for the TDA’s commercial/non-commercial license test.
