Russian Kuban needs more greenhouses to substitute vegetable import
Taking into consideration the Russian ban of imports, the head of the Kuban region Alexander Tkachev “sets the task to double and even triple the agricultural production." The Krasnodar region, as the largest agricultural region, for import substitution needs to increase the area of greenhouses in five times - from a hundred to at least 500 hectares.
It is necessary to increase the area of the gardens, and we will subsidize only those farms that adopt new technology. We need to improve the production cost-efficiency by introduction of drip irrigation system and development of new varieties, - said the governor.
The construction of at least 4-5 logistics centres in the region is being considered in order to influence the price formation in the stores.
The Krasnodar region possesses rich resources of agricultural land, including the black soil. Kuban has the leading position in Russia in terms of production of grain, sugar beet, fruit and berries, sunflower seeds and honey. Kuban currently produces about 2000 varieties of agricultural products.
