Rimol Greenhouse Systems celebrates 20th year

Rimol Greenhouse Systems celebrated its 20th Anniversary this month as it recognized two decades of business in the greenhouse industry. Since 1994, Rimol Greenhouses has provided growers across the United States with economical greenhouse solutions built to withstand the harshest of climates.

Strictly a greenhouse parts distributor between 1994 and 1999, company owner and founder Bob Rimol learned what the market had for components that went into its greenhouse structures. This gave him a chance to understand what went into a successful greenhouse design. Rimol eventually expanded the company as a greenhouse manufacturer in 1999 with the arrival of Mike Marett.

"Mike's arrival was definitely a big turning point for us because we could start putting our designs to the test and seeing what they could do," said Rimol. "It's hard to believe that we opened our doors 20 years ago because early on it was all about survival and refining our products."

Marett, now the company co-owner and operations manager, worked closely with Rimol to design the company's first greenhouse structures, the Catamount and the Northpoint. The low-cost and high quality structures are now part of a greenhouse series that includes 10 models.

"To see where we are today is really special. We've been lucky enough to have good, dedicated people work for us. You can never forget where you come from."

Aside from structures, the greenhouse manufacturer also provides growers with a variety of individual greenhouse parts ranging from temperature controls, coverings and doors. The dedication Rimol and Marett have for tweaking the company's product line is made possible by actively communicating with growers across the country. Understanding how to improve a grower's bottom line has helped earn Rimol Greenhouse the honest reputation it carries today.

"You can never coast," he said. "We've been adamant about putting our desires into action. Product improvement is just as important. In the early years, it took a lot of refining, but now it's just tweaking."

An avid landscaper and gardener in his youth, Rimol has worked to increase the awareness of greenhouse growing. Rimol Greenhouses regularly donates a number of its own high tunnel structures to universities across the United States. This commitment to education is important to Rimol Greenhouses because they want to show educational institutions how agricultural science continues to change, while giving students a chance to participate in an active classroom.

"We recognized the importance of greenhouse donations when the high tunnel market started to prosper about 5-6 years ago," Rimol said. "We feel like people need to start learning more about these things because there are academia that get stuck in their own ways so to speak. We feel like there's a responsibility to show them how and why things are changing. We need to set an example."

As for the days ahead, Rimol paused when asked about where the greenhouse industry is headed. "There's demand for certain things," he said. With horticultural and agricultural practices constantly developing, Rimol's constant communication with growers is more important than ever. "Twenty years ago, the horticultural market was on the rise. Now the agricultural market has developed. You never know where the market is going to be," said Rimol. The company's commitment to keeping up with the changing market has never wavered, and this is something customers can depend on in the future.
