US (IA): Container contest reflects creativity, horticulture

These were among the 40 entries in the fourth annual container garden contest that was judged Wednesday at the Clinton County Fair in DeWitt, Iowa.

Winning first place in the "outstanding use of foliage" category and also "best of show" was Barb Boeckman of Wheatland. She also won both categories in 2011. Her container of coleus and the deep burgundy Joseph's coat red thread was deemed full, lush and colour-complementary by the judges.

The contest is sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach/Clinton County,
