Vegetables discarded by Greece sold illegally in Bulgaria
Bulgarian traders introduced import fruits and vegetables from Greece with fake payment invoices to sell them in the domestic market. This produce, of the lowest quality, arrived to Bulgaria after being purchased in Greek wholesale markets.
According to Plamen Dimitrov, executive director of the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Growers, the produce unsold by the end of the week in the Greek market should be discarded.
"Since traders from our southern neighbour have to pay a fee to do this, they prefer to sell their products to their Bulgarian counterparts after arranging a fake invoice."
Dimitrov affirms that around 90% of the unverified goods are sold immediately after crossing the border; produce which had been discarded because of its really poor quality.
