One in four German greenhouse growers produces its own energy
26.6 % of German greenhouse businesses produce sustainable energy, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de. Most of these companies are provided with Photovoltaic systems (PV), according to the study "GewächshausScanner Deutschland", carried out by the consultant AgriDirect in March this year
65 % of the companies producing their own energy have solar panel installations, 14.3 % work with a biogas plant and 6.4 % use a solar installation to heat water. According to the study, 5% of the German greenhouse companies is planning to invest in renewable energy. 1.6 % of these companies are opting for photovoltaic system and another 1.2 % prefer solar thermal systems for heating water. The remaining 2.2 % plan to invest in a biogas plant, wind power plant, geothermal power plant or other renewable energy sources.
For the "GewächshausScanner Deutschland", approximately 1,400 German greenhouses companies were questioned about their business activities and their future investments.
