Horticoop opens new orchid substrate factory

As a Royal Warrant holder and renowned supplier to orchid growers in Europe, Horticoop has never rested on its laurels when it comes to innovation and investment. As a result of constant efforts to improve their product, the first purpose-built orchid substrate factory in the world opened in Bleiswijk on Friday the 20th of June, 2014. This state-of-the-art specialist location is dedicated to the production of the best orchid substrates.

The new location features a practically 100% closed and automated production process, whereby all raw materials are stored in-house for processing into substrates. Customers can therefore be sure of getting the best substrate possible, with a consistently high quality, and tailored to their specific requirements in terms of moisture content, pH and nutrients.

Consistent quality

The in-house storage and processing of raw materials provides many benefits: adverse weather conditions – especially rain – can no longer affect production. Water can be added by Slingerland Potgrond during the mixing process so that customers receive substrates with exactly the moisture content (HWW) they require. Another major benefit for clients is the fact that the measurement of raw materials is now a fully automated process in the new factory. This has made the calibration process even more accurate, resulting in a substrate with an unrivalled consistency of quality.
